The city council continues to honor the memory of Peggy Pritchard Olson

Ms. Olson was much beloved by the entire town. Her constant giving to the community was an inspiration to us all. She wore a button that said "Edmonds Loves Peggy." She was one of the great civic leaders of Edmonds.

Our city council shows their respect for Peggy in an odd way. First they ignore her express wishes and appoint Diane Buckshnis to the positioned vacated by her death. Then they follow this insult up by appointing the woman Peggy beat in the election in 2003.

For a group who claims to be so involved in the history and heritage of Edmonds they have pretty short memories.

  1. So are you going to use Peggy's name every time you don't get your way...

Yes, you and Lora disagree on many things. Lora will not vote for your taller buildings. She will work hard to acquire more park land, and she wants more public participation at meetings, not less.

If you disagree, just state why, and leave Peggy out of this.

  2. Dave - I believe the logical fallacy you used here is called the fallacy of false cause, or maybe irrelevant conclusion. I was making an observation. So don't try to change or alter the subject. My post was pointing out that you and other council members ignored Peggy's express wishes. And now the current council has done the same.

Get off the taller building thing. It is very passe. Years ago I spoke in favor of an additional 36" to make more viable retail spaces available in the downtown. You should know a great deal about buildings that sacrifice the ground floor in order to maximize the condo dollars as so many of these were built during your tenure. However, the comp plan is in place, no one but you is talking seriously about taller buildings as it is time to move on. Perhaps you misplaced your calendar but it is no longer 2005.

I support a vibrant, destination small town full of charm. One of the ways I do this is by operating three small businesses and doing my best to encourage more businesses coming to town. Outside of my contact with you and your posse of cretins with season tickets to the city council meetings, I strive to be positive in all aspects of promoting Edmonds.

Empty businesses are not quaint. There is no charm in a downtown with empty storefronts, in a bankrupt city that squanders it's money on things it cannot afford while the basics suffer.

Your rhetoric is as stale as your ideas.

In regards to Lora; There were a number of fine, well qualified candidates that applied. I think it is a poor decision to elevate someone to the city council who cost the city a ton of money in a law suit, which as the city is appealing, means a city council member will be involved in litigation with the city. Certainly that was not something we need in this time of financial distress that you helped create and then walked away from.

Further, Ms. Petso show her support her of Edmonds by proudly proclaiming how much she shops in Lynnwood and Shoreline. So the money she spends and the excise taxes she pays go elsewhere.

More importantly than that, Lora is toxic when she interacts with city staff. She is degrading, demanding, rude and condescending. And those might be her strong points. Before you start spewing back, go down to city hall and ask a few random people what the morale is like. If you are like the majority of those sitting on the city council you just walked away from, you have no clue.

But then again, that is obvious to all of us.

    Good day sir.
